Signing in with a passkey

A passkey lets you sign in with your fingerprint, your face, or your device PIN, instead of typing a password. The key itself stays on your device and is never sent to us, so there is no password for anyone to guess, reuse or steal.

Passkeys sit alongside your password on PDF Store rather than replacing it. You can still sign in the usual way.

Adding a passkey

Go to your profile.
Find the passkeys section and choose to add one.
Your device takes over from there, asking for your fingerprint, face or PIN.

If you do not see the option, your browser does not support passkeys. We hide the button rather than show one that cannot work. Recent versions of Chrome, Safari and Edge all support them.

Signing in with a passkey

On the sign in page, choose "Sign in with a passkey" and confirm on your device. There is no password and no six digit code.

A passkey counts as two-factor authentication on its own, so if you have both set up, we will not ask for an authenticator code as well. A passkey is already something you have, your device, combined with something you are, your fingerprint or face, and unlike a code it cannot be phished.

Using more than one device

A passkey is tied to the device or password manager you created it on. If you use a phone and a laptop, add one on each, or use a password manager that syncs passkeys between them. Apple, Google and 1Password all do this.

If you lose your device

Your password still works, so you are not locked out. Sign in with it, then remove the old passkey from your profile so it cannot be used again, and add a new one on your replacement device.

This is the main reason we keep passwords available rather than making passkeys the only option.
