Password protecting transfers

Every transfer on PDFStore can be optionally protected with a password. When enabled, anyone who tries to download your files will be asked to enter the password first.

Setting a password

  1. On the create transfer page, look for the password field.
  2. Enter a strong password. We recommend using a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  3. Complete the rest of the transfer as normal and click Send.

Sharing the password

For security, PDFStore does not include the password in the notification email sent to your recipient. You should share the password through a separate channel — for example, via a text message, phone call, or a different messaging app.

This two-channel approach means that even if someone intercepts the download link email, they still cannot access the files without the password.

Updating a password after sending

If you need to change the password on an existing transfer, you can do so from the transfer's detail page. Visit the transfer link while logged in and use the password update form. See Updating transfer passwords for more details.

Forgotten passwords

PDFStore does not store passwords in plain text, so we cannot retrieve a forgotten transfer password for you. If you have forgotten the password you set, you can update it from your account (see above) or create a new transfer.
